Lin, from Manila by Ken Welch
If you’re familiar with my portfolio, you already know that most of my portraits are of random photogenic people I bump into while walking around wherever I happen to be. Under these circumstances my volunteers are rarely prepared for someone to take their picture; I have to go with whatever condition their hair, makeup, and clothing are in at that very moment. Wind as well as available light are two other challenging factors. In Lin’s case I was lucky: she was standing outside a church after her friend’s wedding. Hair? ✔ Makeup? ✔
Clothing? ✔ Wind? None. But the available light was bad: the wedding party was standing in the shadows of the large church, which blocked even any indirect daylight. In post I removed the resulting blue color cast, and then worked on the contrast a bit.
