The Lucky Strike by Leonardo Papèra

GALLERIES AND WORKSHOPS: www.leonardopapera.com [ENG] This is certainly what many people would call a “lucky strike”: I believe that these “strikes” represent a bit the Essence of Photography, that small variable that simply can’t be calculated, although we carefully plan our photography sessions. That variable that, if you are at the right time in the right place, will be exactly what will give the photo that touch of uniqueness that no meticulous planning could ever give.
In this case I was on top of one of the mountains of the Landmannalaugar, an area quite popular between hikers and travelers of all kinds. That evening, however, the sun has decided to illuminate just for me that very little hill there, of the multitude that can be observed from up there, for a period of time long enough to allow me to photograph it. Here, that was my lucky strike! [ITA] Questo è sicuramente quello che molti definiscono un “lucky strike”, letteralmente un colpo fortunato. Una botta de culo, tradotto un po’ più liberamente. E credo che queste “botte” rappresentino un po’ l’Essenza della Fotografia, quella piccola variabile che semplicemente non si può calcolare, per quanto si pianifichi attentamente la nostra uscita. Quella variabile che, se ti trovi al momento giusto nel posto giusto, sarà esattamente ciò che darà alla foto quel tocco di unicità che nessuna pianificazione meticolosa potrà mai dare. In questo caso mi trovavo in cima ad una delle montagne del Landmannalaugar, area sicuramente assai popolare tra escursionisti e viaggiatori di ogni genere. Quella sera però il sole ha deciso di illuminare solo per me proprio quella collinetta lì e basta, dell’infinità che si possono osservare da lassù, per un lasso di tempo lungo abbastanza da concedermi di fotografarla. Ecco, quello è stato il mio lucky strike!
