The Atlantic Road takes you on a unique journey close to the powerful Atlantic Ocean. This Norwegian Scenic Route opened in 1989, and is considered the most beautiful road trip in the world by some, thanks to the combination of modern engineering and spectacular natural surroundings. The road was chosen as the Norwegian Construction of the Century in 2005, and takes you on a journey through moorland, fertile cultural landscape, weather beaten bays and islands. For centuries, the ocean has been of great importance in Norway, both as a means of transport but also to industry, recreation and activities. In the communities close to the Atlantic Ocean, the fishing industry has been of great importance for generations.
