Sunrise on the moon by Daniel Kordan
Ascending to Kawah Ijen was quite a fun adventure, like flying to the moon. 5 hours by car from Bali, ferry in the night, jeep 1,5 hours on top village and 2 hours hike. No sleep at all – and I’m among others who wish to see blue flames inside the toxic crater. Even in the special mask sometimes it’s hard to breath the sulphur gases, but locals working so hard digging the sulphur blocks and bringing 70-80 kg up the crater, even without any mask! Sulphur was burning blue indeed, but just a one little fire. March is not a great season to see blue flames: rain drops them down. But sunrise on top of the crater was really worth the trip: sky turned pink for a moment, giving absolutely unearthy colors. Danielkordan.com
