Portal to Winter by Marsel van Oosten

The cover of the latest issue of D-Photo Magazine features one of my images from Iceland. This one was taken several years ago when we were still running tours there – we stopped shortly after The Big Tourist Bang. Ice caves are amongst the coolest places to spend time in and to photograph. Every year they’re different, always fascinating and crazy. With many photographers visiting these places it’s difficult to get anything really original though, so there’s the challenge. In this case, I managed to get something very different by not only looking forward but also straight up. This image is a vertical panorama consisting of 14 images shot with my 14-24/2.8 on a Nikon D810. So the top part of the image was actually right above me. Photography is all about seeing.
