The Diva of Magic by Timothy Poulton
So it’s been 3 weeks back in Sydney and living in suburbia is soul-crushing! If it weren’t for my beautiful family, I’d ditch this city and nomad the shit out of this planet. I experience total clarity when I’m in the mountains. Remember being a kid and waking up at the crack of dawn because you couldn’t wait to tackle the day? That’s because you were excited. If what you’re doing right now doesn’t excite you, then it’s time for a change. And the longer you wait, the more you will feel it in your body (and need more and more coffee). No wonder there’s a coffee shop every 20 metres. What is natural? It is often assumed that natural is better than artificial. Getting back to nature is something we should aspire to, with kids in particular not spending adequate time in nature. But if you want to escape civilization and head into the unaltered wilderness you may be in for a shock: it doesn’t exist. New research now suggests that there are practically no areas that have escaped human impacts. But not only that, such impacts happened many thousands of years earlier than is usually appreciated. In fact, you’d have to travel back more than 10,000 years to find the last point when most of the Earth’s landscapes were unaffected by humans. Your life’s purpose mainly comes down to the simple act of doing what fulfills you. If you cannot satisfy that in yourself, then you will end up finding ways to cope with the fact that you are living without “purpose. The art of fulfillment is the ability to experience not only the thrill of the chase but also the magic of the moment the unbridled joy of feeling truly alive.
