I spent the last weekend on the North Rim of the grand canyon after changing my plans to head to Colorado at the last minute. The north rim during autumn has been on my mind for a number of years and I had always been curious to see it with autumn color. While most people do not associate the grand canyon and fall color, after this last weekend I must say some of the colors were far more spectacular than I could have imagined. On the very first evening of the trip, I wandered out to one of my favorite spots hoping for a nice sunset. No matter how many times I visit this spot I always seem to shoot this draw down in the canyon as it fills with golden light prior to sunset. I decided to create this panoramic image here that showcases the canyon walls framing the golden glow. Even more impressive is that in the full res image (which is a native 50 inches wide) you can see a nice row of glowing cottonwood trees about a third of the way up from the bottom of the frame. While the sunset was not as glorious as I had hoped, it was still quite pretty to the east as some of the sky lit up pink. The rest of the weekend was full of wandering around the park, back roads, and national forest lands adjacent to the park marveling at swaths of red, orange, yellow and green aspen trees.
