Ablaze in the Northern Sky by Daniel Herr

Back in time – September 2012 – the first time I visited this area in the southern highlands of Iceland. The craters of Laki belong to the Eldgja volcano system and is well known for the largest volcanic eruption in human history. 100 craters spit fire and poison and caused a climate change worldwide. 25 percent of the icelandic population died in the following weeks and month because of poisenous gas, starvation and cold summers. Millions of people died in the following years because of the climate change. The Laki Fires were one reason for the french revolution in 1789. This image lacks a lot, I had problems to focus in harsh conditions and as far as I can see – all settings were really bad. Dof is not so good, sharpness in general is not uptodate but I loved this amazing atmosphere – a sunset in fast moving, strange clouds and the reflections on the surface – lava and moss turning into burning orange.
