The Skógafoss is a 60 meters high and 25 meters wide waterfall in the south of Iceland, not far from the town of Skógar. The Skógá river now flows over the edge of a cliff of the former coastline of Iceland. After the coastline had withdrawn by the rise of Iceland after the last ice age (which now lies at a distance of about 5 km), the cliffs remained behind and now form the boundary between the lowland, together with the mountains behind it. and the highlands.
The story goes that Þrasi Þórólfsson, one of the settlers of Iceland, has hidden a casket of gold behind the waterfall.
