Breaking the Sky by Marc Adamus

One of Earth’s great peaks, Devil’s Thumb, in Alaska, breaks through clouds. Just the small tower at left of summit is more than 1500 vertical feet high! The Northwest Face is over 6000ft sheer and remains one of climbing’s last great unclaimed feats despite several attempts by elite teams. The cracked lines you see here in the foreground were enormous, and hid icy depths dropping hundreds of feet into the glacial surface below. Not the kind of area you’d want to walk around unless well protected, and even then options were very limited! I explored this area in detail on foot and via helicopter this July and August and came away with some very enjoyable but really hard to access shots! Here’s one from a warm Alaska day in the middle of summer 😉 It had got up to about 38 degrees that day up here! D810, 14-24mm.
