I hadn’t been out in ages. It is funny how sometimes our love for photography evades us day and in day out, and we go to sleep each night hoping that enthusiasm finds us in our dreams. But I did not get this image today thanks to a new found enthusiasm, I got it due to my heart stopping at around 12.30am this morning. It caused me to wake up startled, frightened. It happens sometimes and as I gasp for air, I am forced upright in bed and I wonder what the hell just happened. It is if, for a moment, that the devil himself laid his fingers upon me. From that moment on, sleep evades me and nothing I try will help me drift back off. So that is why I found myself at West Bay at a little after 3am this morning. For those of you who don’t know this place, it is where they film Broadchurch. Looking at the jurassic rock formation in the distance, you will notice that there has been a massive landslide. This happened only a few weeks ago and took with it the 17th green of the golf course that sits on top of the cliff. Nobody was hurt, but it was very much a near miss. Anyway, the sunrise today was one of the best I have ever seen. It was as if Monet himself was put in charge of sunrise this morning. There were yellows, reds, oranges and purples. The clouds skated across the sky in every direction and the result was almost psychedelic. I am happy with this image – and I rarely ever say that.
