Soft late afternoon light over sand dunes in death valley national park. The dunes are an interesting place, and an area I enjoy returning to once in a while. There is always something different when I am there. The weather can be perfect, or sporadic, the light can appear differently, the winds could make things barely visible. There are so many variables when it comes to photographing sand dunes. I oven venture out there with a zoom lens already attached to capture the various layers of the rolling hills of sand. This particular evening was about as calm as you could imagine here. Not even the slightest breeze could be felt. Patterns along the dune ridges were still in tact here, and as the sun began to fall behind the mountains, the last moments of sunlight graced the tops of the dunes. It wasn’t gold, it wasn’t contrasty, it was rather pastel. I’ve only seen the light like this one other time here, and while I was actually hoping for something dramatic to occur, I was quite happy that I captured this particular moment of light and shadow.
