Framing, photographically speaking, is one of my favorite ways to emphasize the subject or subjects in a landscape. Framing immediately brings attention to your subject. Trees often have a way of wrapping over a subject and framing the subject of the scene if placed just right. Photographing through grasses, flowers, or snow capped boulders can often bring more attention to your subject, they all work well to bring the viewer’s eye to your subject. More advanced compositions like leading lines, or golden triangles, using elements to frame your subject can really make an image a bit more interesting and engaging, and make your subject really stand out. In this image from the Lofoten Islands of Norway, I have used the snowcapped boulders to emphasize the famous red buildings that surround this incredible location. Make sure to add a link in the comments as I’d love to see other examples. Captured on our recent tour for OOAK with Ingrid Kjelling we literally stayed in the amazing huts and had this stunning view for three days. Sarah Hatton and Ingrid will be running this tour next year and we still have a couple of spots left.
