Just A Little Kiss and the art of Selective Colour I’ve recently discovered that many photographers are unaware of the power of Selective Colouring. With its versatility, I’m convinced it’s one of the most powerful tools for photographers today. I’ve been using this technique for over 20 years in graphic design and now in digital photography. The Selective Colour layer is a Photoshop adjustment, and I find it to be very flexible and useful when Hue/Saturation or Colour Balance can’t help. It’s great for retouching and selectively adjusting the colour of anything. Despite it sharing the name with one of the worst photography techniques to come along since a picture of a mobile in a mobile held by some model in a Fedora, Selective Colour is a tool found in Photoshop to help tone and cross process your images properly. Still not convinced? What if I was to tell you that this is the primary tool used by some of the top photographers in the world today. In my image Just A Little Kiss from Lake Wanaka of that famous tree I have used this technique several times to create a unique painterly style. Join me on any of my photography adventures to learn more.
