INSTAGRAM No, this is NOT Norway! This is the ALPS … one of the advantages when you have a winter with only little snow. You can enjoy a phenomenon called “black ice” on alpine lakes when there is not much snow, freezing cold temperatures for several days and the surface of the lake catches some sun light during day. It´s been kinda spooky walking on the surface of that big lake because you could see through the crystal clear ice like through the glass of a window. The periodically bloodcurdling cracking, creaking and hammering sounds of the ice together with a perceptible vibration made us hold our breath every time … though the ice layer had been thicker than 20cm (so that you can safely walk and even ice skate one it) the creepy sounds always reminded us that the next step could have been a wet one
