Please view in black — Press “H”– “Sea caves” at Ayia Napa town must be the most photogenic place in Cyprus. There are 2 problems though for the aspiring night shooter. Light pollution and inaccessibility. Light pollution can be more or less worked out in post , but getting there is a challenge. One has to descent from really steep rocks into knee deep water ( you can see the spot at the end of the left rock formation) and walk almost half a kilometer on partly submerged rocks to get to the center of the caves. Once you are there though , you dont want to leave ! The surrounding rock formation forces you to see just the galaxy and listen only to the breaking waves. A unique experience !! Fortunately , that night , the waves and wind were not strong and This made things much easier , especially not having to wipe the front element of the lens after every frame. This a is panorama created from 21 frames (3 rows in 7 columns in a landscape orientation) Taken with the D800 and Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8. Exposure for each frame was f/3.2 , 25 seconds , ISO 2500. Raw files converted into Tiffs and stitched with Microsoft’s spectacular and free, “ICE” (Image Composite Editor). Nothing special in post processing , mainly noise removal with Topaz denoise , color correction and sharpening. The Orange-yellow glow contributing to the light pollution is coming from the town of Ayia Napa.
