Japan’s largest outdoor music event, the Fuji Rock Festival, celebrates 20th birthday
The annual music festival, which takes place in the ski resort of Naeba, Niigata Prefecture, is celebrating its 20th birthday with over 220 acts across seven main stages and several smaller performance spaces from July 22-24, 2016. Inaugurated in 1997, the Fuji Rock Festival did not get off to a good start. Held at the base of Mount Fuji, the event was struck by a typhoon on the first day, and organizers chose to cancel the entire festival. The Red Hot Chili Peppers' headline set went down in rock history, with the band continuing throughout the storm and despite lead singer Anthony Kiedis's broken arm.
