This photograph represents a long connection I have had with this place, far above the crowds and tourists and in front of 9000 sheer feet of icefalls and cliffs. It is also the last image of this peak I’ll ever post. It is the conclusion of my projects here. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. On the image: The waterfall in the center above the lake is actually icefall from the glacier above, which happens regularly here, dropping icebergs into the lake which is nearly 1 mile across (for a sense of scale). The sky is the real sky shot at the same time as the rest of the frame, but enhanced in PS. I had to do some minor cloning/warping of a cliff wall in the ULC to keep it out of the frame. All of the other elements are the result of patient scouting and exploration of the area. I once had a mid-winter shot of this tree on my website as well but the snow did not allow me to get the separation I wanted. This comp is better. This was an amazing morning with mist so thick we couldn’t see the peak much of the time, clearing, fortunately, at just the right moment here. The valley at my back was just a wall of clouds. …oh, and now that I see it posted here I realize a couple of edges got oversharpened… Nikon d810, 16mm.
