Leopards and tigers are my favourite big cats, both are incredibly beautiful, but notoriously difficult to find, which is why we specifically set up a photo tour for these two animals a few years ago: Tigers & Leopards. In case you don’t know your cats: this is a leopard. Even though the place that we visit on that tour offers the best photographic opportunities to get tons of great leopard shots, there are a few other places on this planet that can also be very productive. Of those places, there is one that offers the most spectacular habitat, and that is the Lower Zambezi in Zambia – wonderful light and great forests that make your images look completely different from anything from the Masai Mara or the Serengeti. With the added benefit that there are hardly any other photographers around, so you can spend hours on end at a sighting without seeing another human being. This was one of those times where we spotted a beautiful young female that was very relaxed with our presence, and she allowed us to follow here for quite a while. Just after the sun had set, she walked up a termite mound and lay down to check out the surroundings for prey. We literally shot until it got too dark for us to focus, and then we left her in peace.
