this is a significant reprocess of an image I took in February 2015 – the reprocess is primarily around restitching of the panorama. Changing the panorama type has brought a greater focus to the milky way core and pushed the self portrait back into the scene – creating a bit more scale to the image. While I’ve done it one time before, I don’t like reposting – but it is interesting to revisit a reprocess of the image as your skills and styles change over time. This was with a Canon 6d and a Tokina 11-16 f2.8 @ 16mm. I’ve since purchased a tamron 15-30 f2.8 which is a full frame lens and so therefore has less image quality issues. rehash of the previous information – The green glow is from airglow.
Salt lake in Western Australia. Salt lakes can be caused by erosion with the minerals collecting in basins and not running off or by increase in the water table (more common here in Australia) due to land clearing for agriculture. The salinity issue causes problems with agriculture and using the land for anything else. Some businesses farm the salt.
Salt lakes change greatly throughout the year. I scouted this location out only about 3 weeks prior to the shoot and the rate of change was quite significant with more cracks and rupturing that I had to travel further into the lake to get some “cleaner” pressure ridges.
