Autumn Thunder by Sean Bagshaw
Autumn Thunder in the Rockies. Zack Schnepf and I took an epic fall road trip in Colorado and the conditions for the entire two weeks were phenomenal. The area around Crested Butte was the epicenter of color this year. We spent several days there and were present when the first snows of the season came down. This image was taken in the Gothic Valley one evening as thunderstorms preceded the approaching snow. We had been photographing lower in the valley when we saw the light and rain showers further up. We jumped in the Millennium Falcon II and raced to this overlook we had previously scouted and found it was being bathed in some incredible storm light. Canon 5D III, 24-105mm lens, polarizer. Two exposures blended for dynamic range. 1/13 and 1/6 of a second @f/14, ISO 200 and 35mm focal length. Developing consisted of various tonal and contrast adjustments as well as luminosity painting utilizing the TKActions Panel to generate the required luminosity masks. If you are not familiar with TK Actions more information can be found here.
