Archway Islands, Wharariki. New Zealand… by DK Photography

This has been one of the hardest images for us to acquire here in NZ. Situated in the northernmost extremity of the South Island, this is the most spectacular coast in the region. From the end of Wharariki Road, a hike over farmland & a trek through a section of coastal forest to the beach, you are greeted by a great expanse of sand between dunes, before the longish trek to the waters edge. Day 1 was a failure. Day 2 & 3…the same. We only assigned 3 days for this location as you can only shoot here on low tide & the tide was changing each day for the worse, but we thought we’d take a risk & stay for one more sunset & boy did it pay off! We decided to put the new Lee ‘Little Stopper’ through it’s paces & did a long exposure of 240secs & was able to get all those incredible pastel pinks & yellows as the sun’s colour moved across the sky. Can you also see the baby Elephant in this shot? 😉 Dale & Karlie
