A huge flock of Black-Legged Kittiwakes takes blasts off escaping massive calving of Lilliehookbreen (Lilliehook Glacier) in Lilliehook Fjorden on Spitsbergen. Kittiwakes and other birds use to feed in the nutrient-rich waters in front of the glacier. The frequent calving of glacier face disturbs the water and causes small fish and plankton to rise to the surface becoming an easy prey for the birds. After big calving feeding frenzy starts immediately with thousands of birds sharing the party. We were fortunate to have very active glacier under overcast skies which really makes the blues very bright in the glacial ice. Add to this lots of patience and a bit of luck and here is the photo. August 2014, Lilliehookbreen (Lilliehook Glacier) in Lilliehook Fjorden, Spitsbergen, Svalbard.

The Reward by Dylan Fox

This is a new touched up version of this photograph. Just a few little tweaks here and there. This was one of the most epic moment I have ever photographed. a stunning sunset had me wrapped…. and then there were lightning strikes right at the end of this passage I was photographing. The main strike was an accidental strike capture in a 0.4 second exposure and it was by far the closest strike to shore the whole evening!

The Lone Touareg by Marsel van Oosten

This was shot in the southwest corner of Libya during a four month expedition in the Sahara of northern Africa. I had scouted this particular dune formation two days earlier and decided to return when there was more wind. I had marked the location in my GPS and made sure to be there well before sunset. My touareg guide was very fit, so he didn’t mind when I asked him to go for a little hike 🙂 This image is part of a series called ‘Dwarfed’ that won me First Prize and the overall title International Nature Photographer Of The Year at the International Photography Awards for the second time in a row. Sunset at New York City by George Becker

I was able to take some time to spend in New York City with my boyfriend this Labor Day weekend (our first trip to NYC together), and it was wonderful! This photograph was taken on top of the Empire State Building. I can’t imagine how many times this is actually photographed, but it was a wonderful memory. The sunset couldn’t have been any more perfect, and it was a great ending to the first day. Such a vibrant city!
