This is the last older image of mine that I decided to go back and reprocess for now. I have a lot of newer images from Summer trips to go through, but this one from a couple of years ago at Mount St. Helens had been irking me for a while. This was taken on an early Summer morning and was the first time I had the chance to see this spectacular mountain in all of its glory. It was a scene like no other I had ever witnessed. A landscape with obvious evidence of the famous eruption. Yet, it was miraculous how much recovery had already taken place in just a little over 30 years as well. I tried my best to capture that with this image. I absolutely love red paintbrush wildflowers, so I tried to get close up to this patch in the area that made for a nice foreground. Thank you for taking a look. Prints available at: www.candacebartlettphotography.com

It’s always such a nice surprise when elements come together so well in a photograph. This 23 image panorama captured what looks like some zodiacal light on the right side of the image, airglow, glow from Kilauea Cauldron, and the glow of Hilo on the left. I’m not too sure about the red glow in the air on the left. Strange light pollution or more air glow? www.shaneblackphoto.com

A pretty simple and straight forward shot of the ever popular Seal Rocks State Park. Nothing to crazy here, but I just loved the warm light, so I thought I’d toss this one up real quick. Single exposure, some luminosity masking to get some mood and control tones, a little dodging, and a few texture adjustments. Only about 10min of processing start to finish here. Anyways, I recently released my 3rd instructional video on my approaches to processing. People seem to really be enjoying them and have had nothing but great things to say, so I *think* they are helping people… it’s been awesome to see the many before/after shots people have been emailing me. Be sure to check the videos out if you are into that sort of thing. It’s all on my website, as well as more photos, photo tour info, processing instruction via Skype like everyone else is doing, etc, etc. I’m also SUPER excited to be teaming up with Arild Heitmann to lead a tour through Norway’s Lofoten Islands to chase some some Aurora and the long hours of golden arctic light. The tour is filling up fast, so if you’re interested, be sure to check it out soon! Ryan Dyar Photography.

As always, check it out on black. …my thoughts about the new Sony A7S This is the first photo I’ve taken with the new Sony A7S. I went out with my buddy Ian Norman who was also sporting the new camera, we chose Alabama Hills for perfect nightscape location for our tests. My experience with the camera was not incredible, however it wasn’t disappointing by any means. The camera is pretty amazing when it comes to ISO capability. All the colors in this image didn’t take much to pull out, I could already tell from the RAW files that this camera picked up more Galaxy vibrancy and nebulosity. The photo is only one RAW file, there was enough detail to pick up all that foreground information as well as Milky Way detail. This photo was taken at 12,800 ISO and a 25Sec Exposure. To see an image this clean and that high of an ISO is stunning to say the least. The camera can also see in the dark, the digital live view and viewfinder makes it super easy to focus on the stars. The megapixel kind of threw me off a little (not that megapixel is everything) but it is nice to have 18 on the 6D. I’m not really sure how the 12-megapixel pictures this camera produces will print. In addition, the interface is a little awkward (not because I’m not used to the camera) but I just feel like in general some of the buttons are in strange spots for versatility and finger movements. It’s all subjective though, that’s just my opinion. I think with some user customization those issues can be solved. Overall though I really think Sony is on to something awesome. The clunky interface is worth the fantastic image results in my book. I will be doing a more extensive review of the A7S soon, but these are just my initial thoughts. Hope you guys enjoy the photo, sharing is always appreciated. I also have a link to the A7S from B&H Sony A7S, Nikon 14-24 F2.8
