Dreary Fall by Ryan Dyar

The hardest part of leading workshops, especially this time of year, is not having to ability to be one of the Greek God’s of weather. On this most recent workshop we were forced to work pretty hard to chase down good conditions, hunting the best of the weather and covering almost 1000 miles of travel. We were fortunate enough to make some good calls and ended up getting some good light all over the northwest while in search of fall color. This shot was on one of the mornings where we were stuck in an absolute deluge of rain, but managed to make the best of it at this lesser photographed river in southwest Washington. The fog at sunrise created a great atmosphere and long exposures made for interesting foregrounds. A wet day that ended up even wetter after driving hours back up north to the Olympic coast, where we shot a lovely sunset while being drenched from ridiculous rain and wind. Great times all around! Anyways, I recently released my 3rd instructional video on my approaches to processing. People seem to really be enjoying them and have had nothing but great things to say, so I *think* they are helping people… it’s been awesome to see the many before/after shots people have been emailing me. Be sure to check the videos out if you are into that sort of thing. It’s all on my website, as well as more photos, photo tour info, processing instruction via Skype like everyone else is doing, etc, etc. I’m also SUPER excited to be teaming up with Arild Heitmann to lead a tour through Norway’s Lofoten Islands to chase some some Aurora and the long hours of golden arctic light. Where to hear piano music with a drink in hand, from sing-alongs at Mr. Smith's new Georgetown location to old-school dining rooms with live jazz. Mr. Smith's of Georgetown's big move from M Street to K Street created a little schism in D.C.'s piano bar scene. Not only did Mr. Smith's end up continuing the Billy Joel sing-alongs in a new location in the former Chadwicks space at 3205 K St NW, but former Mr. Smith's staffers ended up opening a piano bar of their own called Georgetown Piano Bar.
