This is an image that I took over the summer in Jasper National Park. The hike in was long and muddy, but once I reached this valley I was truly stunned. I have seen images from here, but being there for myself was simply wonderful. The winners of this year’s ANZANG photography contest were recently announced and my image “bird tree” was named runner-up for the monochrome category. This is 2 exposures blended together using my advanced Photoshop tonality control and multiple exposure blending techniques. I produced a video detailing these techniques, it’s available here: www.zschnepf.com This might look familiar, my good friend Sean Bagshaw already posted his gorgeous version of this last week. He and I just returned from an epic trip to Colorado chasing the fall color. On this evening we were working a different location when we saw this storm rolling in just in time for sunset. I said to Sean “we need to go there right now”. We tossed the gear in the rig and quickly headed down to this spot we had scouted earlier. We both hopped out and setup in record time, just in time to capture this very photo. Thanks for commenting!

Tonic of Wildness by Candace Bartlett

Please click on the image to view on black. I’m finally getting around to processing some images from this past Summer. This is a very well known scene from Mount Rainier National Park. While there was a beautiful sunset over the Tatoosh Range, my primary interest was on a vibrant, lovely patch of wildflowers that I discovered. I tried to place focus on those here with this image. The title comes from one of my favorite quotes: “We need the tonic of wildness…At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable.
