Windy Meadows by Patrick Marson Ong

www.patrickmarsonong.com Definitely a photographer’s haven. Lakes, mountains, glaciers, backcountry and wildlife in one place. If your keen on photographing wild flowers then be sure to head over there during summer season! On our way to Swiftcurrent Lake for sunset. Got there quite early and had enough time to explore the place. As soon as we enter the Many Glacier area, our eyes were fixed on these vibrant fields of flowers along the way. We decided to just do the lake the next day. Lol. Photographing flowers enemy number 1 – WIND. It was around 20kph and it looked more like a flowing sea of flowers when we got there. Haha! So how do you it? how do you photograph a scene like this? I first set my composition then aimed to get the background (mountains and clouds for this image) perfectly focused and multiple exposed. Next was to get the foreground right, so from there, I compensate for the much needed fast shutter speed. Boosted up ISO and set for a wider aperture to freeze the flowers and get it at the right exposure. Quickly shot and refocused all the way up to the middle ground before the light fades away. It took me about 20 shots just for the foreground. Had a hard time combining them by hand in processing. What do you think? If you like it then please do share! For those who are curious about the foreground settings, here’s the exif Background: 16mm/ƒ/16/1/2s/ISO 50
Foreground: 16mm/ƒ/7.1/1/320/ISO 1600

Between Worlds by Michael Goh

36 image panorama @ F3.2 ISO 6400 25s 15mm (Tamron 15-30) Canon 6d. Weather conditions have been quite poor for the majority of the year. Combined with other things happening – it’s been difficult getting out. Watching the forecasts leading up to this trip – the weather kept changing materially. I normally watch the weather across several sites leading up to a shooting opportunity. I settled on Lake Dumbleyung – I’d been there before. Conditions indicated calm conditions but the cloud would be progressing through the night and overwhelm the sky. Arriving at the location – I was pleased to see that the water level was high – allowing for these two trees to be reflected in the lake. The lake bed was in most part – solid enough for me to walk on (last time I was here – the thick mud in the lake tried to eat me and ran off with part of my tripod). I did actually start doing some tutorial videos for this – including on site with a gopro – but I’m just getting used to go pro video at the moment :P. I also did quite a bit of experimenting as well – so the post processing video got carried away to another country and escaped. I’ll do a blog post at some time in the future. webpage

Upon the Hearth the Fire is Red by Enrico Fossati

“Upon the Hearth the Fire is Red” “……Home is behind. The world ahead.
And there are many paths to tread.
Through shadow to the edge of night.
Until the stars are all alight.
Mist and shadows, cloud and shade.
All shall fade. All shall fade….. ”
A work from my last workshop in the Dolomites with Erin Babnik. I have titled this picture as one of my favourited songs from LOTR OST.
