The revival of vinyl records in Britain continued in 2016 with sales jumping to their highest level in 25 years, according to figures released on Tuesday. Music fans bought more than 3.2 million LPs last year, a rise of 53 percent on 2015 and the highest figure since 1991, said trade association the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). Rock icon David Bowie was the highest-selling vinyl artist of 2016, scoring five albums in the top 30 following his shock death last January.

Song streaming on subscription services more than doubled in the United States last year, bringing solid growth to the music industry despite sagging album sales, data showed Monday. Analytical firm BuzzAngle Music said that consumption by the world's largest music market rose 4.9 percent last year, led by a surge of streams of individual tracks. Streaming services, which offer unlimited on-demand music online, have grown rapidly in recent years and brought new growth to a long-stagnant industry.

Definitely without question the most photographed place I have ever photographed. That’s the Alabama Hills, right here. In fact, they may actually be more photographed than any landscape in history due to all the big Hollywood filmmakers which have come hear over the past century, to this rugged land of rocks and striking peaks. I have lead more than fifty week-long photographic workshops and tours in this region over more than a decade now and because of this I preach creativity and exploration. Perhaps no region I’ve been offers more diverse opportunities for shooting, and someone shooting with me could most easily avoid iconic or classic locations and get dozens of portfolio shots in a trip. But not here. Nope, this is taken right from main street in the Alabama’s. It’s not another shot of Mobius Arch, thankfully, but an equally recognizable background looms here out of the clearing storm adorned with a small barrel cactus up front. Lone Pine peak shown here is the most prominent peak in the area, thanks to its incredible light. Never was that more true than on this morning either, so I just couldn’t resist sharing this. I have only processed one personal image in the last several months, so I have been taking a bit of a break here, focusing on family. I am now getting back into the swing of things and am offering this shot as a bit of a ‘warm-up’ for what’s to come…

Despite of the Rain this small humming bird was still working hard, and wasn’t discouraged either by the rain. First Light Of Morning by The Narratographer

A slight re-hash of an older image. This morning, I was up with the lark. I set off at just after 6am and arrived at Ladram Bay Holiday Park a little after 7am. Why they build these awful places right on the edges of areas of beauty, I will never know. Seriously, these caravan parks are vile and they look like a death camp on the sea. Rows and rows of identical huts, all deserted at this time of year. The paths muddy, the hedges and grass overgrown – it is a wonder why anyone would actually want to live here, even if only for the summer.
Anyway, finding your way around a place you have never been, in the dark, is not easy. Having parked up and walked towards the sea, I eventually arrived at the top of the cliff. But I couldn’t see the composition I wanted. I walked right. Ten minutes later, nothing. The hedges are so overgrown at this place that you can barely even see the sea. So I walked left, found nothing but what looked like the playground from Pripyat (that is the town next door to Chernobyl, for anyone who wonders what I am on about). So I went the other way again, nothing. I started to get frustrated. Eventually, having gone back the way I came for the third or fourth time I eventually noticed how to get a decent view. You have to climb a fence, walk up a little bank and teeter right on the edge of certain death! Yep, the featured image for this trip was attained by pretty much hanging my camera and tripod over the edge of the cliff…it is the only way you can really get the shot.
So having taken all my shots here, I have decided to use a little bit of Luminosity Masking in order to bring out the detail in them. It can look a little like HDR, but it isn’t. Luminosity Masking allows you to selectively adjust brightness and contrast in an image, whilst protecting all other areas of the image. With the detail that is in these amazing rock formations, I thought it was the only way to do the images justice. I will be writing a tutorial on LM very soon.
