I am often surprised by how much power the external world has over us and how little and insignificant we perceive ourselves to be in comparison to everything that’s happening around us. When you identify yourself with your physical form, taking your value and sense of worth from outside of yourself – your job, age, physical appearance, your family and friends, your material possessions, your accomplishments, and so on, you can’t help but feel some sort of fear when the security of all the things you cling to is threatened. When you rely on something transitory to bring you joy and fulfillment, and when your sense of identity comes from something that is bound to change, how can you not feel afraid? This is the whole secret of non-attachment: live in the world, but don’t be of the world. Love people, but don’t create attachments. Reflect people, reflect the beauties of the world — and there are so many. But don’t cling. The clinging mind loses its mirrorhood. And mirrorhood is Buddhahood. To keep that quality of mirroring continuously fresh is to remain young, is to remain pure, is to remain innocent. Know, but don’t create knowledge. Love, but don’t create desire. Live, live beautifully, live utterly, abandon yourself in the moment. But don’t look back. This is the art of non-attachment.

Website | Facebook | Instagram It was our last night in Senja before heading to Lofoten islands. On ground level the visibility was really bad due to low hanging clouds but we still decided to make an ascent to the top of 630m tall iconic Segla despite being exhausted from another hike earlier the same day. We were hoping that it would clear up once we gained more elevation but it didn’t look too promising when we wandered around the misty slopes. Then suddenly, at the height of around 500m the mist started to vanish and the surrounding peaks became visible. At that point the exhaustion disappeared and I pretty much ran up the mountain to reach the top. It was an absolutely breathtaking experience standing there on top of Segla and watching the midnight sun as it never set below horizon. The night was perfectly still without even the slightest breeze and there were only a few other hikers up there. All in all, Senja really treated us well and I’m surely going back there one day to experience some new areas. Merry Christmas to all you wonderful people and thank you for checking this one out!
