Powell and Market Cable Car in San Francisco by Nicolas Barison

The San Francisco cable car system is the world’s last manually operated cable car system. An icon of San Francisco, the cable car system forms part of the intermodal urban transport network operated by the San Francisco Municipal Railway. Of the 23 lines established between 1873 and 1890, only three remain (one of which combines parts of two earlier lines): two routes from downtown near Union Square to Fisherman’s Wharf, and a third route along California Street. While the cable cars are used to a certain extent by commuters, the vast majority of their seven million annual passengers are tourists, and as a result, the wait to get on can often reach two hours or more. They are among the most significant tourist attractions in the city, along with Alcatraz Island, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Fisherman’s Wharf. The cable cars are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The cable cars are separate from San Francisco’s heritage streetcars, which operate on Market Street and the Embarcadero, as well as from the more modern Muni Metro light rail system.

|| A LAKE HOUSE || by Bruno Soares

Saying “Hi” to a new day always makes me feel good, but sometimes can be just amazing!!! It was still night when I arrived at this fascinating Lake that is “Lago di Braies”. Then, I just stood there waiting for the Sun to lighten up this magnificent landscape in front of me! There was no wind at all, which made all the scenario even more beautiful and peaceful involving me into it so much that I was not even looking at the camera! And then, when the Sun touched the mountain with its golden rays, everything just turned out magic, pure magic. I surely could leave in this House near the Lake!! According to the legend, the valley of Lago di Braies was inhabited by a population of wild men who guarded a treasure of gold and precious stones in the surrounding mountains. Given the abundance of gold, invasions and raids began. To defend this precious source of life, the savages decided to hide the gold in the water fountains, the same fountains that fed the lake, thus giving it the bright emerald colour that we can still see today. Is it a legend or is it real?!
