Tejal Rao Digs the Chicken for...
The much buzzed about chicken is good, but not without fault. Tejal Rao stops by Dirty French and despite her typical disdain for dishes that are served "for two," she enjoys the elaborate chicken presentation, which comes for two, in two services:The chicken and crepes dish for two ($72) at Dirty French is something else. You will need a large table to comfortably hold the setup. The breast meat has been roasted and sliced beautifully, laid over some kind of creamy mustard sauce….The legs, which arrive separately, are poached slowly in chicken fat, then grilled. …

In each episode of Quality Control, Polygon managing editor Justin McElroy talks to a critic after they review a new game and allows them to add a little bit of extra context and insight. Why did they feel the way they did? What do they wish they had been able to discuss in more depth in their review? Also: Did they play it wrong?

Very happy to announce that I’ve won first prize in the young category of Scandinavia’s biggest nature photography competition, the Finnish “Vuoden Luontokuva”. With close to 13000 entries sent in this year it is a real honor to be amongst the few awarded. It also happens to be the first time I’ve ever entered a competition. Much to my delight this photo also made it to the final round of judging in the prestigious BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year. It was a dull, rainy and overcast day but in hope of mist I set out to a nearby lake. Upon arrival everything was grey and still wet. I noticed two Common Gulls (Larus canus) flying back and forth across the bay next to me, where the mist was gathering, so decided to wait. After many hours my wait was rewarded as the clouds finally parted enough for the setting sun to shine through and light up the scene, creating a surreal golden backlit light. Eventually both gulls landed close to each other. I knelt down and positioned myself right at water level to include the reflctions and create a sense of symmetry. Then the mist suddenly lifted. I had my shot, a not so common scene of yet so Common Gulls.

The last few days winter arrived in Iceland and finally the name of this wonderful country meets it’s expectations. However, only a few weeks ago the whole country was dipped into beautiful autumn colors. This image was shot at Hraunfossar, which means Lava Waterfalls because the water streams out of the lava field behind it and falls into the Hvítá river beneath.
