Over the course of an hour or so I photographed clouds coming and going over these spectacular spires and peaks in a remote region of Northern Canada after a storm, and I put them together in this rendering which depicts their ragged and weathered forms (at 350mm). I have visited here many times, but seldom from this perspective above. The last time I did, I took the self portrait I have here on this website from the opposite side of the peak in the background. These peaks speak to me of great strength and beckon me to live life. They emerge victorious from the greatest of storms. I wanted to make an image that conveyed what this incredible place means to me, looking from through within the clouds at something great.

Shot in January 2016 during a cold spell in a mountain range in Norway’s west. I captured this image as the temperatures dropped to -25C, all while there were still areas of open water in the nearby river. An open crack is just outside the frame. The hoarfrost conditions were perfect for forming these unique near cabbage (the intl’ standard reference for ice flowers) sized ice flowers. The image was shot as night transitioned into twilight, with the new moon barely lighting up the landscape. It’s not a composite, everything in the frame was there. Although it is a mix of different exposures of the same scene (shot over a period of 40 minutes or so). The shooting star was there, which I was happy with the direction of. In fact in many of my other shots from this night the sky was scattered with shooting stars, seemingly there was a meteor shower occurring. Thanks for looking, any feedback appreciated.
