Himalayan Desert by Marc Adamus

Sands of the Karakorum Himalayas, Skardu, Pakistan. We were lucky to catch some amazing light and a clearing storm here one evening. These particular dunes are located around 2600m of altitude and surrounded by peaks rising 6000m. There are many lonely trees like this one scattered across the sands.

Esta iglesia, en lo alto de una colina cerca del Arno, tiene un origen muy antiguo, se la relaciona con San Miniato, el primer mártir de la ciudad. El santo llegó como eremita a Florencia sobre el año 250. Durante las persecuciones romanas contra los cristianos, fue decapitado y, según la leyenda, después de la ejecución, cogió su cabeza y se la llevó al monte donde fue enterrado.
En este lugar construyeron un santuario y una capilla.
En 1018, probablemente, empezaron las obras para construir la iglesia. En 1090, el potente gremio del Arte de la Lana pagó la fachada, en estilo románico, con los típicos cuadros de mármol blanco y verde. Desde 1373, el complejo está habitado por los monjes Olivetanos. El interior de la iglesia, dividido en tres naves, conserva su estructura original. La armoniosa nave central está dominada por la Capilla del Crucifijo, realizada por Michelozzo en 1488, en la que, en su origen, se guardaba el milagroso crucifijo de San Juan Gualberto, que, en 1671, fue trasladado a Santa Trinita. En el altar mayor de la cripta se conservan los huesos de San Miniato.
El coro, decorado con un gran mosaico de 1297, está alzado respecto a la cripta y el ábside. En la sacristía hay un ciclo de frescos sobre la vida de San Benedicto, obra de Spinello Aretino.
