Sunset in the Volcanic Kamchatka Peninsula by Chris Burkard
There are a total of 160 volcanoes, 29 of which are still active in the Kamchatka Peninsula of far east Russia. On this night, incredible lenticular clouds formed amidst a glowing red sunset reminding us of a volcanic plume. If you visit this vast wild landscape you will feel a rawness that we rarely experience while traveling.

INSTAGRAM Yes you can see the core of our galaxy even in light polluted Europe. E.g. you just have to hike a mountain to be above the dust in the air and you´ll need a clear night …
We´ve been on the top of Mt. Glanderspitze during the #EarthHour2017 (I posted the picture from our camp last week) but I guess most of the people in the valley didn´t care about that too much … anyway, we participated our way and extended the earth our to an “earth evening and night” Folks, turn off your lights whenever possible! You are consuming and wasting energy!!! Not only we astrophotographers would be thankful : every time you switch off the lights you are preserving our planet a little bit, you will synchronize your biorhythm and ease the life of your local wildlife! I often hear concerns from people like: “a single person like me can´t make a change” … well, be a shining example for all who think so and the amount of all the “single persons” will make a difference !!!
I had planned this panorama a year before and could finally realize it the last week. The high inversion fog was a little “add-on” after all.

This is not a famous lake. It’s just an ordinary lake in a small town that’s not even so popular to the locals. However, when the winter morning fog blends with the glorious sunrise, this ordinary place looks extraordinarily stunning.
