One Step Beyond by Timothy Pou...
One Step Beyond by Timothy Poulton
I can’t believe that I have not written a post about skies. In most cases, a sky can make or break a landscape scene. It’s also something that I see a lot of photographers overlook or only spend a few minutes on in their processing. The thing is, an amazing sky sets the entire mood of an image. Because of this, it’s my priority as soon as I get into Affinity Photo. I spend quite a bit of time adjusting the clarity, highlights, midtones, and shadows for my scene. With my image from Mt Cook, you will see how much the mood is increased by the sky. Once I finish with the sky, I amplified the warm and cool tones using color overlays, selective colour and added more shadow at the base of the image. All these moves help to start the viewer’s eye on the left side of the image, and slowly move it to the right over the scene, mimicking the path a viewer take. In this way, I am using the light started by the sky to help tell the story of the scene.

It is always nice to discover a new location you’ve never visited before. At the end of a narrow gorge in the Southern part of Iceland you can find this beautiful yet hard to photograph waterfall – it is extremely difficult to keep the filters and equipemnt dry for a couple of seconds. 🙂
