This place is probably the coldest place I’ve been in my life, but it’s also a place so pretty that I can die here.

Dread of the Sea by Ramunas K ...
Dread of the Sea by Ramunas K Fishermang
I am happy. I think to myself, while I walk lightly onward to the shore, “you know what, I am going to photograph waves today!” I am happy. Splash splash sploosh, is what I hear as I continue, happily. I am going to set up my tripod, look at the sun go down and enjoy life. It’s all real good man, I keep thinking to myself. Happily. The sea looks at me from afar. I close in. I splash and sploosh and make many other such sounds. I crouch to take a few pics, feeling all elegant and good about myself. What a great day. I am happy, I think to myself, as water surges to my waist and quickly above my head. No time to think! I grasp for air. No air to be had. Lungs are not happy. And dread spreads through my whole essense. Must …acquire unique compositions from BELOW THE WATER! That’s right. We photographers never stop, no matter what. Anyway, processing: my main challenge in this beach scenery which I initially wanted to call “Drama Queen” but decided not to, was to achieve a balance between the sky and the foreground. See, I wanted the image to be dark, because dark processing shows way better natural colors. But I wanted to keep the foreground light. Just doing so looks kind of weird to me. So I kept the image dark, but gave a boost to highlights in the sunlit area in the sky, and in the wave highlights in the foreground, defined by luminosity masks. And apart from that, there is a bit of color correction and dodging done as well. The photo is one exposure, but there was a separate processing for dark rocks to have some detail there. If you can’t see any detail there, well then your screen is too dark! Anyway, enough rambling. Let me know what you think!
