Last year I shot this nearly identical scene to the one I shot 3 years ago at the same spot. Wasn’t my intention to shoot here again but seeing as the conditions were maybe even nicer I stopped by after shooting elsewhere for the actual sunrise.

HOLODOMOR by Irina Dzhul
HOLODOMOR by Irina Dzhul
HOLODOMOR (Manmade Famine). Ukraine, 1932-1933 In the hands of the Stalinist regime from 3 to 8 million deaths happened, in the territories of Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan. Innocent peasants were purposefully destroyed by painful death only because the Soviet government saw in them as a serious threat to the USSR regime. In 1932, the authorities devastated the peasants.
The so-called “Law on Five Spikelets” was also adopted, which prohibited picking even a few ears of wheat on the collective farm field. The law provided death penalty with confiscation for such violations. Holodomor – the horror of this tragedy paralyzes the consciousness and tears apart the soul of a modern man. Millions of destinies were destroyed by hunger. The country, which has long been famous for its fertile land and hardworking people, literally drowned in blood and pain, turning into a huge mass grave. Millions of children died in front of their helpless parents, thousands were shot for trying to survive. All this terrible memory of those times lives in the souls of Ukrainians, who are still ashamed to throw away bread made from those very ” Five spikelets” taken from millions of those who died from starvation. In 2006, this black event in history was officially recognized as genocide of the Ukrainian people, a monstrous crime carried out by the godless, anti-human ideology of Bolshevism and Stalinism.
