Dostoyevsky once wrote that “I can see the sun, but even if I cannot see the sun, I know that it exists. And to know that the sun is there – that is living.” Well, every single time I go out and make my captures, that´s the same feeling I have. I hope you like my new image, it illustrates a bit of my experiences out there in the field, many times living this dream of mine, combining experiences and moments, that ultimately are made to share here on our community. My biggest thanks to all of you that are always here for me, image after image. My bigggest goal is to be here and enjoy our 500px community. Also would love to have the input of some buddies that since quite a long time stop visiting me. Are my images that bad? I hope not. 🙂 Best greetings and… happy shooting!!

Really needs to be seen on black! Olmsted Point, what an incredible spot to view the stars. Olmsted has always been a spot that I have just driven past on the way to Yosemite Valley or to Glacier Point. This time I was on my way back from Mammoth with my friend Simon Christen and Shawn Reeder. We stopped for sunset and to hangout before we all had to drive home. It was pretty cloudy during sunset so shooing Milky Way seemed like it wouldn’t be possible. Shortly after sunset the clouds cleared out and we decided to stay for a bit and shoot , we were lucky enough that the sky cleared out. I couldn’t pass up an opportunity like that. This is a 4 image vertical panorama to get the very wide perceptive. All of the shots were taken is 12,800 ISO which was enough to get nice sky detail and more then enough detail for the forground. The experience was awesome, the stars were awesome. The late night drive back to San Francisco, not quite as awesome. I hope you guys enjoy the photo, sharing is always appreciated.

A beautiful sunset at Ruby Beach, Olympic National Park, Washington as light beams pierce through the clouds in the distance. Had the pleasure of photographing this scene with Ryan Dyar and Miles Morgan. Processed using many of the techniques taught by Alex Noriega. I highly recommend his post processing instructions. Best viewed on BLACK!

Something is on the move under the glacier of Many lakes.
Lava river running wild, many miles looking for exposure.
Bursting from the underworld through the land of Ice. Overpowering the river, out of control, fire in sight.
The shining rock formation saluting the fall, trembles in fright, Will the fall be Sculptured in stone, that night.

Apparently these peaks were a prominent backdrop for the original 1969 John Wayne version of the film. I haven’t seen it, but hopefully the film crew had some light conditions like this while filming. Zack and I photographed this scene for about two hours. Just when we thought the light couldn’t get any more interesting it would prove us wrong. 5DIII, 24-105mm at 47mm, polarizer. 4/10 of a seconds, f/16, ISO 100. The light range fit in a single exposure but I did quite a bit of developing of the highlights, shadows and color balance to get the image to more accurately communicate the darkness of the clouds and brilliance of the light as I experienced them. Photoshop tutorials at my website.
