Sun Valley by Marc Adamus

The incredible uniqueness of Tibet’s Kharta Valley is that it may be the only place on Earth where you can find the colors of Autumn near the base of 8000m high peaks, like the Makalu massif in the background here. While the logistics of getting the permits to get here are outrageously forbidding, we had some great local help and great luck getting in, so my highest priority became finding a way to capture this landscape with these two elements together. While this particular rendition shows off both, it shows off the light more than anything, which was a fair trade since it was one spectacular evening for light. The image involved an unusually large amount of work on just about everything in post processing, including hours of color and contrast work to cut through the haze and retain the correct tones. Anyway, hope you like it. It’s a stitch of 3 14mm images.

Passed by this factory near the border of Virginia on a frigid afternoon. The grey skies, the fog coming off the water, and the steam pouring out of the stacks really gave sort of a post-apocalyptic feel to the landscape. Tried to enhance that feeling in post. Hope not over-cooked.

I was at this place a couple of times to get the right conditions. During the day this place is full of people. But so early in the morning you are alone or with one or two other photographers. The conditions are rapidly changing so i had the opportunity to take a lot of shots. This is one of the first – just at the beginning of sunrise. There was higher and lower mist at this morning. So i also have some shots with the sun but covered by higher mist. It was really magic to see it and to observe mother nature painting one picture after the other.

I had a lot of amazing adventures this summer, and this was about a month and a half ago when I went to discover the Graubuenden in my homeland of Switzerland. We woke up at 3am that morning to walk up a 3000m high peak in the fog and the snow. I seriously thought I was going to die of frostbites up there, acting as much as a drama queen as I’ve ever been able to!
This was taken whilst coming down, so you can imagine the overall feeling of joy I was feeling that it was all over haha! Missed you 500px pals!

The Edge of Tomorrow by Sherry...
The Edge of Tomorrow by Sherry Bell
This was my first time to Dead Horse Point, I arrived in the parking lot about 25 minutes before sunset. Not knowing where the best vantage point would be I franticly rushed around the edge of the canyon at Dead Horse State Park. I come to one spot I guess where most people shoot from which was lined with cameras but wanted a different take for this canyon, so my rush continued with real fear I would not find my different spot before sunset. Not much color yet, lots of clouds along with the man made clouds from heavy arousal spraying for several days, which I believe is the reason for the haze in the canyon and the great colors in the sunset. Finally I found this spot which did not have so many people close by, I had to stay back from the edge so as not to get numerous people in the shot and I liked the beauty of the rocks where I stood as part of my foreground. I know my composition could have been better but this is what happens when you are up against nature’s time clock. The sunset showed off for me, so happy for that and so worth my frantic rush to get this shot. My sister is sitting nestled down on a small ledge to the right to take some shots of her own, she is so small in comparison. The park is so named because of its use as a natural corral by cowboys in the 19th century, where horses often died of exposure.
