Technology vs Milky Way by Dan...
Technology vs Milky Way by Daniel Llamas
We live at a terrible world. Frenetic rate of our society surrounds us and technology enslaves us. However, only with lift our eyes we could be free, such is the power of the night sky. Punta Nariga at north of Spain, even light pollution sky is incredible. If we add to this the beautiful modern lighthouse, shaped like a ship’s prow, we have a magical place. Night photography is all preparation, one must know what time the moon rises and sets, as will illuminate, that position will be the stars, orientation of target … All this to get composition you have in mind. Although at Nariga is difficult to predict weather, blowing a wind so strong that conditions vary quickly between clear, cloudy and rainy, making panoramic even more hard if possible. That does not mean you have to not go a day and prove a point of view and low milky way, try again another different point of view and milky way across lighthouse lantern … until finally you get it, or not, because surely will return. In this case I search self-portrait, that represent our frenetic pace of life prevents us from enjoying beauty of the universe, even though only necesary power off mobile and look up.

Day two of our latest Iceland Workshop and we were treated to some superb evening light at the roadside. The heavy snow has left the area blanketed and the meander of the river makes the perfect leading line. Everybody happy,

Leopards and tigers are my favourite big cats, both are incredibly beautiful, but notoriously difficult to find, which is why we specifically set up a photo tour for these two animals a few years ago: Tigers & Leopards. In case you don’t know your cats: this is a leopard. Even though the place that we visit on that tour offers the best photographic opportunities to get tons of great leopard shots, there are a few other places on this planet that can also be very productive. Of those places, there is one that offers the most spectacular habitat, and that is the Lower Zambezi in Zambia – wonderful light and great forests that make your images look completely different from anything from the Masai Mara or the Serengeti. With the added benefit that there are hardly any other photographers around, so you can spend hours on end at a sighting without seeing another human being. This was one of those times where we spotted a beautiful young female that was very relaxed with our presence, and she allowed us to follow here for quite a while. Just after the sun had set, she walked up a termite mound and lay down to check out the surroundings for prey. We literally shot until it got too dark for us to focus, and then we left her in peace. A wonderful experience. – – – If you would like to experience a different kind of safari, away from the maddening crowds, where you can go off-road, and in a truly unique habitat, then you should consider joining our Beyond The Great Rivers tour. This year’s tour will be led by world famous Wildlife Photographer of the Year winner Greg du Toit, who is not only a great guy, but also a fully licensed guide with tons of safari experience, and one of the best wildlife photographers on the planet. Over the years we have run many safaris throughout Africa, and this is always one of our guest’s favourites. If you’re interested, please check out the Beyond The Great Rivers tour page on our website: www.squiver.com/tours-workshops/zambia-2016/ There are only two spaces left, so best not hesitate for too long! After a few freezing hours on this peak at -18°C, we finally got the view we’ve been waiting for, before we had a long hike down from the peak through the night. Shot on my trip to Italy with Guerel Sahin in February 2016. If you like my work, feel free to follow me on facebook, instagram and on 500px, for sure!

~Little by little the night turns around.
Counting the leaves which tremble at dawn…~
Pink Floyd Morning light sunbathes (balmy 10F/-12C) the snow covered amphitheater hoodoos at Bryce Canyon National Park. This already incredible landscape, gets its proverbial “icing on the cake” after 10+ inches of snow. Thank you all!

Some lights cast more than one shadow. Stand before nightfall and you’ll see for yourself. The flames shift and dance, never still. The shadows grow tall and short, and every man casts a dozen. Some are fainter than others, that’s all. Well, men cast shadows across the future, as well. One shadow or many. (George R.R. Martin)
