Lava Cake by Peter Coskun Nature Photography

I’ve never seen lava up close or in person for that matter. However, some of these slot canyons surely come close with how vibrant and red they can turn with the light. The glowing red walls of these canyons often remind me of that extremely hot stuff found in volcanoes. This one was no exception. In fact, I cant recall seeing such vibrant reds on a canyon wall before, and I have seen a ton of red rocks. While it was surely impressive to see, it actually made it rather difficult to photograph as my camera is rather sensitive to extreme reds. I was able to tame some of the burn in most of the images, but in others, it was a bit more difficult. Not to mention that it was actually a little more natural when it was much more vibrant. I still can’t get enough of these canyons, and hope to explore even more of them in the future. I have a handful from my recent wanderings to share over the coming months, but I will try to switch things up every now and then. Enjoy!

The Sun Reborn by The Narratographer

As I said the other day, I am slowly getting back into photography after a four month break. When I first opened my eyes this morning, at around 5.15am, I wondered if it was even worth going out. The weather forecasts as for clear blue skies, with no cloud whatsoever and the view from my bedroom window did little to disprove that. But having thrown a coffee down my throat, I decided that nothing ventured, nothing gained.
So I headed towards Swanage. By the time I passed through Corfe, the skies were doing little to impress me but I could see a glimmer of pre-sun in the distance so I decided to carry on. By the time I arrived at the old pier (which was shut), the sky had began to turn a little red and I quickly raced over to the jetty to see if I could capture something a little dramatic. This is what I saw.
Shortly after taking this image, I met a fellow photographer named Mark. We talked, as most photographers do, about everything we dislike about our chosen passion. Those kinds of photographers who do it simply to sell their work, or those that take image after image from the same place. We talked about how few people seem to still do it for the love of taking images, as so many seem to be doing it simply to earn a few quid, be it by selling their work or offering tuition. Still, we are definitely the same kind of photographer.
