Piazza Unità d’Italia (Unity of Italy Square, Trieste-Italy) is definitely one of the city’s most picturesque sights. The beautiful historical buildings surrounding it and the open view towards the Gulf make it a unique and special place, both during the day and at night, when it is illuminated by blue and white lights. It is the centre of the political life in town and its history is connected to the Great War, starting from its very own name.

First and Last Light II by Simon W Xu
意大利五渔村日出前的寂静。。。 Walked up the trail in the dark before the sun rise searching for the right spot and found this one vintage point over looking the sleeping village below. After took this one and only picture, however, the lights in the village were completely turned off… Well, at least I got one. BTW, I stayed at the green house right behind the tower…Didn’t got much sleep that night though.
Elevated image’s lightness to my personal taste….Capturing the first light of the new day, and last light of the night in the village …

Beams by Ole Henrik Skjelstad
Beams by Ole Henrik Skjelstad
When we (my wife and I) arrived upon Litlefjell (Romsdalen, Norway) that evening the first thing that took place was these beams coming through the clouds. In regular fashion that resulted in some hectic activity with arms, legs, tripod legs and camera stuff in all directions accompanied with a language worthy of someone born and raised in the north of Norway. Åndalsnes is down there somewhere, btw. Blend of four exposures. After a few mins the sun came so clearly through that it was possible to get a couple of decent sunstars, but this time around I omitted using one of those.

Beware of the Dog by Herman van den Berge
The closed wooden bridge is the only thing that seperates the visitors and tourists from the mill closest to the public area. Last week when I visited Kinderdijk I met a foreigner with his family and we talked a bit with each other. The man said that he was a little bit disappointed in the miller because while taking some photos he saw him working outside the mill and he waved to him but the miller didn’t even looked up. I tried to explain to him that every day hundreds of people pass the mill trying to get a glimpse of the miller and his family and how they live. Everyone is taking pictures or making small videos, day in day out. He nodded and he understood. “Yes, you’re right he said…….. I understand that the man and his family has little privacy left during the day, didn’t think of that before” , then he left with his wife and kids. After he had left I remembered doing the same when I visited Kinderdijk the first few times many years ago. I also waved to the miller and his family but after a few visits I also understood the man just wanted to be left alone and I even understood his ugly barking dog running up the bridge to scare the hell out of some of the tourists passing by….. This pano was made out of 4 verticals. Best viewed on black (click image or press “M”)
