Cologne Cathedral is the second highest church building in Europe, 157.38 meters high, and the third highest in the world after Ulm Cathedral. The Cologne Cathedral is located about 250 meters from the Rhine on the former northern Roman city limits in the immediate vicinity of Central Station, Hohenzollern Bridge, Museum Ludwig and Roman-Germanic Museum. It is surrounded on the Domhügel about 17 m above the Rhine by a modern concrete construction, the Domplatte. His address is Domkloster 4, 50667 Cologne. The Cologne Cathedral is one of the largest churches in the Gothic style. In it, many art historians see a unique harmonization of all components and jewelry in the style of late medieval Gothic architecture realized. It is important to understand that Cologne Cathedral began in the 13th century (Gothic style), but was completed only after centuries of building freeze in the 19th century (Neo Gothic). Therefore, its western façade, the characteristic twin tower front, was largely built in the industrialized 19th century, however, according to medieval plans, which were rediscovered in 1814/1816. The medieval Gothic style has produced only two significant church towers of this openwork type: Strasbourg and Friborg. All other similar towers such as in Ulm or Regensburg are works of neo-Gothic of the 19th century. The west facade with the two towers is over 7100 m² and is the largest double tower facade in the world. Cologne Cathedral was the tallest building in the world from 1880 to 1884. He is also the most visited attraction in Germany: the cathedral chapter is 20,000 to 30,000 visitors per day, which corresponds to seven to eight million visitors annually.
