Piopiotahi (Milford Sound) by William Patino
Although I live close to Milford Sound (Piopiotahi), it’s not a part of Fiordland I photograph much these days, instead focussing more on the other 99% of surrounding wilderness. However, I was after a ‘classic’ Milford image to be apart of my portfolio, so here it is. This somewhat encompasses what I consider all the elements that make this place so special. After 6 years of visiting, this was and still is the only time I’ve witnessed this spectacle of the setting sun embalming the inner part of the fiord.

Lake Louise and Fairmont Chateau, Banff, Canada by John S
Lake Louise is a hamlet in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies, known for its turquoise, glacier-fed lake ringed by high peaks and overlooked by a stately chateau. Hiking trails wind up to the Lake Agnes Tea House for bird’s-eye views. There’s a canoe dock in summer, and a skating rink on the frozen lake in winter. The Lake Louise Ski Resort features a wildlife interpretive center at the top of a gondola.

The hidden heroes There are more than 100,000 Indian salt workers in Gujarat – the “Agariya”. The Agariya, as the salt workers are called, work under the most extreme conditions to finance their lives with salt, the “white gold”. There is no protection. The workers are predominantly “Dalits”, Casteless, untouchables and indigenous people. So the lowest layer of the population. They are the reason why India produces about 16 million tons of salt a year, thus strengthening India economically. Everyday work is characterized by heat and hard physical exertion. www.bergauer.cc
