Dopo 4 anni, finalmente sono riuscito a immortale un’alba pazzesca alla Diamond Beach, in Islanda. Oggi però voglio raccontarti una storia ancora più incredibile. La particolare storia che ho scoperto proprio su questi ghiacci di colore blu intenso. Mentre ero li a fotografarli durante uno dei nostri workshop mi si avvicina una ragazza incuriosita da quello che stavo facendo e comincia a parlarmi in inglese. All’epoca facevo fatica a capire la lingua, ma in ogni caso lei è stata molto brava a parlare piano e a farsi capire Dopo un pò che conversavamo scopro che lei è una guida e che è una grande esperta di questi posti magici. Comincia a spiegarmi che il ghiaccio che avevo davanti a miei occhi e che potevo toccare con mano, aveva più di MILLE anni! 😱 In poche parole, davanti a me avevo un pezzo di storia. Ma la cosa ancora più sorprendente è stato scoprire il motivo per cui alcuni ghiacci sono trasparenti (come tutti ce li immaginiamo) mentre altri invece sono di quello splendido blu intenso o verde smeraldo 😲 Ogni Iceberg è composto da neve che si accumula e si compatta attraverso i secoli. La differenza di colore sta nel quantitativo di sali disciolti in esso e dall’aria presente nella neve. Più un iceberg è vecchio e più il suo colore da bianco diventa azzurro; ma il vero colore blu lo si può notare quando i ghiacci che sono in mare, si capovolgono, facendo affiorare la parte vecchia di secoli di compressione che è quasi priva di aria, oltre che impregnata di acqua. Le parti inferiori degli iceberg possono quindi variare dal colore blu al verde, ma la cosa eccezionale è che questo colore non cambierà per il resto della loro vita. Quindi se vedi un iceberg di colore blu è semplicemente perché stai vedendo la parte più profonda degli strati che si sono accumulati secoli fa, la parte che si è appena capovolta.

There is no universal answers to the questions where the inspiration comes from and how to find it or what the light or weather conditions will be. We are all experiencing the surroundings world via our own lenses and perceive it in our own unique way. Wilson’s Promontory is one of the places in Australia that inspire me the most. That’s why I am visiting this place again and again!
