Upper Proxy Falls by Paul Garrett

I have visited Lower Proxy Falls on several occasions, but this past weekend I visited Upper Proxy Falls in the heart of the Cascade Mountain Range in Oregon for the first time. This amazing waterfall drops around a 100 feet down a steep mossy cliff and it offers endless opportunities for unique compositions. Proxy Falls is located just short hike from Route 242, and it is a little over an hour drive east of Eugene, Oregon. You will need a Forest Service Pass to park at the trailhead. These passes can be purchased at the Blue Sky Market in the little town of Rainbow, which is just west of the turnoff to Route 242 when you are driving up the McKenzie Highway from the Willamette Valley.

I’ve never thought of this location on Mount Hood as a great spot for summer shooting. BUT in the back of my mind I knew an explosive sunset would light up the water to create something a bit magical. I never chanced an attempt until this summer. Probably the first time I made good on a concept for an image on my first attempt. My excitement at capturing this display was dampened a bit once I got back home and realized I shot the entire event with my camera on mid-sized TIFF. DAMN! Made processing a whole lot more difficult. For those of you who may be interested Landscape Photography Magazine is running an interview with me in their September issue. Questions covered a wide range of subjects including how outdoor experiences turned me onto photography, travel and trekking, balancing passion and family, etc. Give a read and let me know what you think! website

Gloaming Aspen by Stefan Hefele

“Gloaming Aspen” – Rocky Mountains – Colorado While we survived insane heat in the desert we finally come to the end of our trip. The last days we spent in the Rocky´s of Colorado. Most time on an altitude around 3000m (10000feet). This is the place where autumn is at it´s peak and the colorful Aspenforests are glowing like a bunch of firewood. It´s a totally different landscape as well as a totally different climate here. Cold nights close to the freezing point and mountains everywhere. I LOVE IT!!
