Archway Islands, Wharariki. New Zealand… by DK Photography

This has been one of the hardest images for us to acquire here in NZ. Situated in the northernmost extremity of the South Island, this is the most spectacular coast in the region. From the end of Wharariki Road, a hike over farmland & a trek through a section of coastal forest to the beach, you are greeted by a great expanse of sand between dunes, before the longish trek to the waters edge. Day 1 was a failure. Day 2 & 3…the same. We only assigned 3 days for this location as you can only shoot here on low tide & the tide was changing each day for the worse, but we thought we’d take a risk & stay for one more sunset & boy did it pay off! We decided to put the new Lee ‘Little Stopper’ through it’s paces & did a long exposure of 240secs & was able to get all those incredible pastel pinks & yellows as the sun’s colour moved across the sky. Can you also see the baby Elephant in this shot? 😉 Dale & Karlie

Please view on dark background! I surprised myself by staying bare footed for more than an hour in cold water to take this picture. Not to mention that I could magically scape skidding off on slippery rocks several times. Apart from these negligible issues, there was nothing else to complain about… it was a really pleasant sunset. Hope that you enjoy the outcome!

Zenith Beach Port Stephens I was recently looking through my portfolio on 500px and realised I’ve never posted this version of the magical pool at Zenith Beach. Now anyone that’s been to this location knows how difficult it is to reach this pool at high tide and most people wouldn’t take the risk but if you get it on a receding tide and time your run across the boulders it’s worth it, not only do you get the waves smashing against the sunburnt rocks but the pool is full and once you’ve finished shooting it’s a magical place to have a swim. oneofakind.photography

WORKSHOPS VIDEO TUTORIALS WEBSITE CLICK ON THE IMAGE for a BLACK BACKGROUND and more “pop” if you would like. Oregon’s remote southern Alvord Desert. A favorite place of mine to bring workshop clients as well as spend quiet time in solitude and beauty. As a fierce thunderstorm passed by at sunset I was met with an incredible glow of extreme orange light. If you look carefully in the far distant left you can see the dust storm churning. What you don’t see is the spectacular lightening I got. Those images are on the way! I just loved the simplicity of this one, so I decided to post it first. The image is a 19 shot focus stack using Photoshop CC for the blending. As always, I teach post processing on my various video tutorials and via Skype (screen sharing) lessons. Great light to you! Feel free to follow me onFACEBOOK if you so choose.
