Long Exposure Over Stourhead by The Narratographer

So what happened today? Well, in a nutshell, Matt and I got accosted by a weirdo who wanted to know if we took photographs of each other and Matt insulted a stranger by calling her boring. Other than that, we got a few images of the rain soaked Stourhead. Stourhead is a beautiful house and gardens situated in the middle of Wiltshire. At this time of year, the leaves range in colour from coppery brown to blood red and as you walk around the lake, you run into three-hundred year old grottos and crumbling buildings. Anyway, we got there shortly after 9am and it was pretty empty. The view stretches out before you and the trees envelope the lake that dominates the vista. Seriously, the view you are first confronted with is so beautiful, that it wasn’t until after lunch that we first made our way more than 50 yards into the gardens. The skies were leaden and slate-like, with no texture of colour anywhere to be seen. The tree’s still held onto the suggestion of pigment, but it could have been so much better. Then, if the bad weather and crowds weren’t bad enough, the village idiot found us. Walking around with his little point and shoot, he accosted us by the side of the lake and proceeded to quiz Matt on how much he earned from his photography and whether we took photos of each other as well as landscapes. I am not sure if he was inferring that those photographs be naked or not, but it creeped me out nonetheless. From that point on, I kept away from him and left Matt to deal with his pointless questions. From then on, we managed to avoid him and we made our way around the monumental lake. It must have taken us a good two hours to get the whole way around and by the time we reached the car, I was exhausted. Half way around, Matt decided to state that “she looked so bored” just as a lady had walked past him. Realising his accidental comic timing, I decided to add “thats a bit rude, you don’t even know her.” The lady, assuming that Matt was talking to her, turned and gave him daggers for a good sixty seconds. Trying his best not to laugh, Matt made a hasty retreat. Still, we managed to get a few good photos and hopefully, when I return to this place, the sun may decide to put in an appearance.

From our family vacation to the north of Norway this summer. Panorama from Lofoten comprised of eight frames which almost made my old computer kneel – the pano is liberally cropped on each end. My wife to the left capturing images with her camera and cell phone, and thinking refreshingly different from me. I didn’t want to clone out that boat coming in from the left. Autumn Sunshine by Kimber Leigh

Taken last fall I rejected this shot for looking “too” sunny and posted a similar one instead. However, after endless weeks of rain here in Vancouver there is no such thing as too sunny so I’m posting this to combat our wet, grey, dismal weather. 🙂

The Red Rocks Of Kimmeridge by...

The Red Rocks Of Kimmeridge by The Narratographer

There are a couple of clichéd images you can get at Kimmeridge. One, is looking out across the bay, where a strip of stone leads to a hill with a tower. The second, is of a stone jetty that dissolves into the sea. When I went to Kimmeridge last night with Matt, I wanted to get something I had never gotten there before.
So these are the results. There is a beautiful rock formation at the foot of the sea that at the right tide, collects water from the sea that sits in still pools and can cause some beautiful reflections. As Matt and I waited on the banks of the sea, it honestly did not look like the sky would offer any colour. Instead, it was a watery orange that didn’t look too good on camera. And then, just as the sun began to vanish behind a distant Portland, it erupted into a ball of flame.
