This Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus) (黑翅長腳鷸) was wandering around an agricultural pond that is located adjacent to a construction site. The yellow-striped pattern in the pond was caused by the late afternoon reflection of a construction workers’ hut, which had been built out of corrugated steel and painted bright yellow. The Black-winged Stilt is a partial winter migrant to HK. The bulk of HK’s stilt population migrates north during March and April, leaving behind only a small remnant group that stays throughout — and apparently also breeds during — HK’s long, hot summer.
