Fox Orders the Jack Bauer-Free...
If you're into original ideas, then go ahead and press back on your browser right now or throw whatever device your are reading this on in a lake. Fox has dipped into its well of IP and also ordered a series that's a direct descendant of its biggest hit because hey, if it worked once, it will might hopefully could work again. First up is a full series order for 24: Legacy , the latest addition to the 24 franchise and the first without the character who is synonymous with 24 and oh god really? Why? 24: Legacy will not feature Jack Bauer, the CTU agent made famous by Kiefer Sutherland, instead following a brand-new lead character who gets embroiled in the same counter-terrorism drama that Jack did. Where's Jack? Maybe he's chillin' in Palm Springs or in anger management therapy. As previously announced, Corey Hawkins ( The Walking Dead 's Heath) stars as Eric Carter, who is not Jack Bauer. Carter is a former Army Ranger who ends up joining the CTU to stop a terrorist attack or plan or I don't know, some bad guys from doing something. Though we may never hear Bauer's "Damn!" again, the rest of 24 's trademarks—real-time, split-screen, each episode representing an hour in a day—will stay in place. Jimmy Smits will play a senator in the show. Fox also looked at its current shows and said, " Empire is paying the bills, can we get another Empire ?" BLAMMO! I present Star , from Lee Daniels. Star follows a trio of young female singers (played by Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny, and Brittany O'Grady) as they plow through the rough music industry to become, yes, stars. It will feature original music and "stunning musical fantasy sequences." Queen Latifah and Benjamin Bratt are also in the cast. Both shows are being prepped for the 2016-2017 season. Whoa whoa whoa! Did Fox just order two series that don't feature a contractor with special skills working with the police in mismatched fashion? They did! Which of these shows sounds better to you?

Closed Midway Field House Tran...
Buzz Mill Coffee is turning Midway Field House, which shuttered abruptly last week, into a music venue and event space sporting a lumberjack motif (of course) as reported by Austin 360. The East Riverside address also used to be the home of Beauty Ballroom and an iteration of Antone’s, fittingly next door to the relocated Emo's. Sabala’s company Grizzly Discovery opened sports bar Midway in 2014. Buzz Mill is working on opening a second location of the coffee shop near South Congress Avenue, which has been delayed.
